01Agreement
These Terms of Use apply to the OmniScout app (“the App”), the capitalhighrobotics.us website (“the Website”) and the team’s internal Inventory Manager (“the IMS”), together “our services.” The App is available for Android and iOS, as Windows, macOS and Linux desktop installers, and as a browser version. By using any of them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
02Not affiliated with RECF, VEX or any hardware brand
Our services are independent, unofficial resources created by Douglas Matheny / Capital High Robotics. None of them is sponsored by, affiliated with or endorsed by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation (RECF), Innovation First, Inc., AndyMark, Pitsco Education or any other robotics hardware or competition brand mentioned in them. VEX®, VEX IQ®, VEXnet®, VEXcode®, VEXos® and any other third-party names, logos or trademarks that appear in game manual content, parts catalog data or elsewhere belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the games, hardware, teams and organizations our services relate to.
03The official source wins
The App shows game manuals, field diagrams, Q&A, event listings and a scoring calculator that come from RECF’s public websites, plus Quick rules summaries we wrote ourselves. We work to keep them current and accurate, but RECF’s own materials at games.recf.org, recfevents.org, recf.org and kb.roboticseducation.org are always the authoritative source. If anything in the App conflicts with RECF’s official published rules, schedules or scores, the official version controls.
04Translations
The App is available in several languages for convenience. The translations of the App’s own text, including the Quick rules summaries, may contain mistakes or miss nuance. Content that comes from RECF is shown in the language RECF published it in. In any difference between a translation and the official English rules, the official English rules from RECF control.
05Schedule scanning
Scanning a printed match schedule uses automatic text recognition, which can misread numbers, names and times. The App flags rows that look wrong, but you are responsible for checking every scanned match against the official schedule before you rely on it.
06Reminders and notifications
Match reminders, agenda alerts and registration reminders are conveniences. Delivery depends on your device, its battery and notification settings, and on the event information the App has, which can be out of date or wrong. They are not guaranteed to fire on time or at all. Check the official event schedule and registration deadlines yourself.
07Your own data
All team notes, ratings, photos and schedules you enter are stored on your device and are your responsibility to back up. The App has a Backup & Restore feature; use it. Delete my data in Settings erases everything the App stores and cannot be undone. We are not responsible for data loss from device failure, uninstalling, clearing storage or deleting your data.
08Bug reports and feedback
If you send a bug report or other feedback, you allow us to use it to fix and improve our services without owing you anything for it. Do not include personal information, passwords or anything you do not want us to read. See the Privacy Policy for what a report contains.
09Availability and updates
We may change, suspend or end any part of the App at any time. The App checks a status file on our website, and we may require you to update, or turn off a section that is broken, without notice. Some features need an internet connection and depend on RECF’s websites, which we do not control. If those change or go down, parts of the App may stop working until we update it.
10Desktop installers
The Windows, macOS and Linux installers are provided on our Website as is. Download them only from capitalhighrobotics.us, and expect your operating system to show a warning if an installer is not signed by a recognized publisher. OmniScout includes open-source software that remains under its own licenses.
11Third-party content in the App
The App loads content directly from RECF and other services. We do not control that content and are not responsible for its availability, its accuracy beyond our reasonable efforts above, or RECF’s own terms.
12Content accuracy
The Website shows our own event schedule, news, team information and funding and sponsor content, which we maintain ourselves. We try to keep it current, but treat it as informational. Confirm anything that matters, especially event logistics, with RECF or the event host.
13Donations
The Support Us page links to PayPal for anyone who wishes to donate. A donation is voluntary and happens on PayPal under PayPal’s own terms. It creates no obligation on our part beyond using the funds to support the robotics program as described on the Website.
14Third-party links and services
The Website links to and loads resources from third parties, including RECF, Google Fonts, cdnjs, Google Sheets, a hit-counter service, PayPal, Instagram, YouTube and GitHub. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or terms.
15Accessibility
We want the Website to be usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers or other assistive technology. If a page or feature is not accessible to you, contact us and we will work to fix it.
16Restricted access and your account
The IMS is private and login-restricted. It is not for public use, and accessing or trying to access it without an authorized account is prohibited. An administrator issues accounts to team members, coaches and mentors only.
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for anything done under your account. Do not share your password or let someone else use your session. Tell an administrator right away if you think your account was compromised.
17Data accuracy and internal use
Inventory counts, order records and usage logs are only as accurate as what team members enter, and they exist for the team’s own organization. They are not an official record for any purpose outside the Program, and we do not guarantee they are complete or current at any moment.
18Prohibited conduct
In addition to Acceptable use below, do not try to bypass IMS authentication, access another user’s account without permission, probe or exploit administrator-only tools, or use the IMS in any way that could damage or disrupt its database or hosting.
19No warranty
Our services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Robotics competitions involve physical hardware, live scoring decisions and real event logistics. You are responsible for checking anything our services show you against official sources before relying on it in a way that matters.
20Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Douglas Matheny / Capital High Robotics is not liable for any damages of any kind, direct, indirect, incidental or consequential, arising from your use of, or inability to use, our services. That includes lost scouting data, missed events or matches because a notification did not fire or a schedule was out of date or misread, translation errors, lost or inaccurate inventory data, and reliance on outdated or inaccurate content.
21Acceptable use
Do not use our services to violate RECF’s Code of Conduct, harass other teams, misuse scouting data about other teams in bad faith, or interfere with or abusively scrape our infrastructure, including the public data feeds, status file and hit-counter service the Website and App rely on. Scouting is a normal, accepted part of competitive robotics, so be a good sport about it.
22Termination
We may discontinue, suspend or change all or part of our services at any time, for any reason, without notice. You may stop using them at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive (No warranty, Limitation of liability, Not affiliated, Your own data) continue to apply afterward.
23Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of West Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
24Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in full effect. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about our services and replace any earlier versions.
25Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version. Continued use of our services after a change means you accept the revised terms.
